The pick emoji shows a single pick tool, with a sharp metallic head and a wooden or black handle, depending on the platform used. The pick is often associated with mining, and can be used represent the industry. It is also similar in appearance to the miniature pick used by archaeologists and paleontologists in excavation. It has a figurative meaning too, relying the dual meaning of the word “pick”. Someone may try and “pick apart a story”, or “chisel away” at someone or something. Combined with any number of person emojis, it can be used to signify that someone holds a grudge or resentment: having a “chip” on their shoulder.
