The spider emoji is often depicted in a lifelike fashion and resembling either a funnel web spider or a black widow. Most versions of this emoji show it with a proportionately large abdomen in comparison to its thorax, and it is almost invariably black, occasionally with some red markings. Given that many people have a fear of spiders, the emoji usually has a slightly negative association. It’s naturally often combined with the spider web emoji and frequently appears alongside other “spooky” emojis for a Halloween or scary effect. Combined with a bug emoji, it can mean that a trap has been set for someone or something!
