The squid emoji is a very recent inclusion, having been introduced in 2016. It is more realistic looking than the octopus emoji and shows a distinctive mantle, beady eyes and long legs. Depending on the platform or device used, the emoji will appear a pink, purple or red color, occasionally with darker colored spots on its head. It’s used in conversations about ocean life, the deep and – of course! – seafood! It can be used interchangeably with the octopus emoji when being used as a romantic and playful way of saying you want a cuddle, or will never let go of your love.
