The back hand index pointing left emoji shows a single disembodied hand pointing – you guessed it! – to the left hand side of the screen. The hand is formed into a fist except for the index finger which is outstretched into a pointing gesture. Although some emoji platforms allow for skin tone modification, the default color of this emoji – along with most other hand emojis – is yellow or with a pale Caucasian complexion. It is used to point out a fact or a conversation thread, or to attract attention. It can be used to say “go this way” or to highlight another emoji.
