The crystal ball emoji shows a blue or purple orb – often shimmering or sparkling – standing on a small plinth or cushion. Crystal balls have traditionally been associated with fortune tellers, clairvoyants, magicians and psychics, who purport to be able to see the future within the ball. As an emoji, it is fairly versatile and can be used in a number of contexts, though almost always in a light-hearted, jovial fashion. It can mean that something predicts something will be true, whether it be that someone is about to pop the question, or a favorite TV character is about to relapse into a coma!
