There are many versions and combinations of family emojis to reflect the many different dynamics that work to make a family unit. The classic family emoji was introduced in 2010 and shows a generic grouping of one man, one woman and a child. The torsos are almost always visible, and each family member wears a different color top. Some platforms allow for skin tone and hair color modification, however, the software only allows for a single skin and hair tone choice for the family and doesn’t allow combinations. The emoji can be used in a variety of contexts to represent a family unit.
