The person shrugging emoji shows a person – a woman – with her shoulders lifted and her arms raised in a shrug. Also called the “shruggie”, it is a fairly new addition to the emoji universe, though it has an extremely long history of use as a text based emoji where it was written as ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It is used as a IDK – I don’t know – emoji and can be used to convey confusion, the lack of facts or information. Dpending on the context, it can also convey a lack of interest and to indicate someone doesn’t care about the situation or conversation.
