On iOS and other devices, the woman emoji differs from the girl emoji by her straight, un-styled hair, which is swept to the side. On Android, the woman has age lines around the mouth, but is otherwise indistinguishable from the younger girl version. As with all “human” emojis, her default skin coloring on most platforms is yellow, though skin modifiers can be used to alter this appearance. The emoji can be used in absolutely countless contexts, whenever a woman – whether named or unnamed, one’s self or someone else – is involved in any situation or conversation. It is widely used with other emojis to make the context more specific.
