It shows the upper body and head of the woman, with her shoulders hunched up into a shrug and the palms of her hands raised upwards. Depending on the emoji platform used, her face can convey different emotions. On Apple iOS devices, her face is fairly passive; on Samsung, she looks shocked or surprised; while Facebook’s emoji looks upset. It is used in situations where someone is confused, lost, or hasn’t the information or facts to answer a question or contribute to a conversation. It is also used to end a discussion, and to imply that the sender has no interest in something.
