Whether it is to share a new movie we’ve just watched, or to express our anger at the new Avengers installment, or to text our mother and ask her to go out, emojis are our friends, and often our supporters when it comes to expressing your anger, or any emotion we might have at the moment, and that’s why we love them, just the way they are, these tiny icons that change our lives.

You’ve heard it right, Sony Entertainment is making our favorite chatting tools come to life with a story that will definitely capture you and the universal message that will most likely make you wonder, if there’s something more going on inside that Smartphone of yours, and while you dwell on the fact that some things will never change, join us in a story about emoji named Gene, that isn’t just ordinary emoji, and unlike any emoji in the collection, is a bit rebellious. Well, once you see the trailer, you’ll fell in love with this little guy that simply cannot stay within the border of having just one single expression that all the others emojis in phone share, and that will cause him to have so serious issues, such as being imprisoned and left to die along with the emojis that nobody uses, or simply being shunned from the society of emojis. The story follows this Gene as he simply couldn’t keep a straight face when he needed to and became a grimace, which one boy intended to send to his girlfriend, and eventually that costs the Gene emoji more that he imagined.

The main protagonist is Gene, like we mentioned before, and the problem is no longer that this guy cannot keep the straight meeh face that he needs to, which causes the issue in the phone code. But as Gene is being exuberant is threatening everyone, and while some cannot understand how can an emoji be born without a filter other simply don’t care, so Gene is in a way an outsider in Textopolis, the city within the Messaging app where all the other emojis live. He’s fun and cannot understand why he should have this filter, and why is it that his different, which later influence the tie him to the criminals that live here, that eventually, solve his problems. Gene is simple, someone we can all associate with, insecure and looking to be just like everyone else, simply to fit in, avoid problems, and to be utilized by users.
Jailbreak emoji is the next character in line, and you should know about this one as she is a member if Gene’s squad that helps him in pursuit of this ultimate goal, to become a normal emoji, with one expression. Jailbreak is nice and sweet emoji that you’ll most definitely ship with Gene, as she is rather one of the rare creatures that understand that sometimes we need to accept people, just the way they are, instead of judging them for being extraordinary.
The last but not the least, Hi-5 emoji is a character that you’ll most definitely relate to your annoying friends, yet someone that will always come to your aid. Hi-5 is relatively not essential yet he is among the rare ones that will stand with gene whenever he needs it, and not just because he’s a friend or because he considers Gene shouldn’t be treated the way he is treated, but simply because he doesn’t tolerate the fact others won’t accept his friend just because he is different, or because he is looking to be something more that he already is.
While this is definitely an animation that made summer of 2017 better, it is still one of the movies that you can easily find online, and watch whenever you want to, as it’s a great choice when Game of Thrones is too much to take on, and sometimes we all need to become children in order experience what’s it like being the child in a modern day. Emojis are part of our lives, and we cannot simply deny it, as we continue using them whenever we can, the world goes on, and probably one near future will have something else to gush about, but for the time being it’s them, so all we can do is be a part of the world, or perhaps avoid using them altogether, and let them have their parties in Textopolis, the place where they’re all accepted and the place where they all find a life of their own every time you turn off your phone and go, wouldn’t you agree?
