The clamp emoji pictures a C-shaped clamp, complete with a screw. In some versions of the emoji, a piece of wood or other materials are seen between the clamping areas. In real life, such a clamp is used to hold a material in place, or to compress materials together. In the computer age, however, most people will be more familiar with it for being the symbol which often accompanies file compression software. As an emoji, it’s most likely to be used in the context of the latter: to suggest that someone compresses files to you before sending, or to indicate that the files they are sending are compressed.
