The closed umbrella emoji depicts a collapsed umbrella or rain parasol. It has a curved handle and in some versions is wrapped up completely. It is usually purple or blue, though in other versions it appears as a shade of red (including Mozilla, HTC and Samsung), or yellow (EmojiOne). As the umbrella is closed rather than open, the assumption is that it is not raining, but that there is either a risk of rain or rain has only just stopped falling. The emoji can be used to tell someone to pack an umbrella due to the potential for rain, or to show that the sender is prepared for any eventuality!
