The gear emoji is one of the original inclusions into the emoji universe, and it has a variety of meanings which can be used in a wide range of contexts. It looks like a standard mechanical, metallic cog on most platforms, though on Samsung devices it appears as a white silhouette on a green square. It is used to represent any mechanical or engineering process or work, or to represent the English language term, “cogs turning”, meaning that someone is trying to work through an idea or thought. The emoji can also have an additional X-rated mean due to its resemblance to a certain male pleasure enhancement tool.
