The open hands emoji shows a pair of disembodied hands, palms facing forward and raised. The hands are usually yellow, though certain platforms will allow the use of skin color modification software to change this appearance. Its meaning is often uncertain among users, but it is generally used as a symbol of celebration or joy. It is also a similar gesture to the hugging face emoji leading some to believe the hands in this emoji are outstretched for a hug. Additionally, some use the emotion as a TMI – too much information – symbol: the hands are held up to stop any more cringy information from infecting the sender!
