Loosely associated with the “grumpy cat” memes, this pouting cat face emoji has found popularity and fame because of its double “catty” meaning. This emoji differs from other cat face ones in that it is occasionally shown on a side profile as well as a front on position. Other than this, it is characterized by its grumpy, furrowed brows and its dissatisfied frown, and is usually yellow, orange, or grey, depending on the device used. Its primary use is to demonstrate unwillingness to comply with a request, sometimes quite petulantly or childishly. It can also be used to show frustration or displeasure to something which was said or done.
