The nail polish emoji is a popular emoji with two distinct meanings. It depicts a single extended hand with a levitating nail polish brush applying color to the hand’s nails. The color of the nail polish depends on the version of emoji used, and can be red, pink, purple or blue, among others. On some emoji platforms, the skin tone of the outstretched hand can be modified, though this is not supported across all devices. Its original meaning is fairly straightforward: nail polish, getting ready for a big night out and glamor. More recently it’s taken on an additional meaning and is used – particularly on social media – to convey a sense of nonchalance or to shut down an argument with an irrefutable fact or statement.
