The pencil emoji is one of a large selection of stationery emojis. It depicts what looks like a fairly short, stumpy pencil, usually with a lead nib, though the Google version of the emoji appears to be a blue coloring pencil. The pencils are usually yellow and have a red eraser at its end. It is quite a versatile emoji and can be used in a variety of contexts. It can simply represent a pencil, or that someone is writing something whether it can be used to describe both the writing of something specific – such as an essay or letter – and also something more general.
