The snake emoji is always green and has a red forked tongue, regardless of the platform used, though it can differ in how cartoony or realistic it looks from device to device. The snake in the emoji is often pictured as coiled up, such as it is on Apple iOS and Facebook, or slinking in an S-shape, like in HTC’s and Google Android’s versions. The snake emoji has both positive and negative connotations. On the one hand, it can be used to describe someone as a snake or as having venomous words. On the other hand, it’s often used in conjunction with other emojis to celebrate St Patrick’s Day or the Chinese Year of the Snake.
