One of two whale emojis, the spouting whale emoji has a much more cartoony appearance than that of the related whale emoji. It is a blue colored whale – purple on Twitter – with a single spout of water rising from its blowhole. Some versions also give the emoji a hint of a smile and emotive eyes. It can be used very generally in any discussion about the sea, the ocean, or even the bath tub! It’s also used to describe being extremely hungry or feeling extremely full after a large meal! It is similar in appearance to the Twitter “fail whale”, so is sometimes used to mean something has completely failed.
